EVERETT - Early Thursday morning, the Edmonds Tritons Men’s Basketball Team fell short in a contest against the Centralia Trailblazers. This game marked the beginning of the first
round playoffs for the North West Athletic Conference. The Tritons went back and forth with the Trailblazers in the first half following plenty of lead changes. Thomas Doyle, a second-year starter for the Tritons displayed mature leadership and solid court vision. Doyle stayed focused and composed throughout the contest despite having a tough time scoring his normal average of 10.3 PPG.
Late first-half, Erwin Weary Jr. sparked some offense for the Tritons scoring a few
transition buckets. Weary Jr, a lengthy athletic slasher was able to keep the Tritons even
with the Trailblazers at the end of the first half. I was impressed by Doyle’s ability
to grab eight rebounds against a tall Centralia team. Doyle also contributed eight assists
from attacking and creating shots for his teammates.
Second half was troubling for Edmonds as the Tritons were out-scored and
rebounded by the Trailblazer's. The game was relatively even until the middle of the
second half when Centralia began converting off second-chance points from the lack of
defensive boards by Edmonds. The Trailblazers initiated a 12-3 run with just under eight to
play hitting three-threes complimentary with a fast-break transition layup.
A late spark from Doyle’s crafty passes to Drew Magaoay off of Edmonds full-court trapping press nearly helped overcome Centralia's seven-point lead with just under two
to play in the game. At the buzzer, the Tritons fell short by two-points and were eliminated
from the NWAC Playoffs after recording a solid 19-10 record for the season.
